Typhoid Test (Typhidot) Test at Home in Srinagar
Rapid, specific diagnosis of typhoid fever — distinguishing it from dengue and malaria.
What does the Typhoid Test measure?
The Typhidot test detects IgM and IgG antibodies against Salmonella typhi outer membrane protein. IgM indicates acute or active infection; IgG indicates past infection or vaccinated immunity. The Widal test (also available) uses agglutination titres.
Why does it matter?
Typhoid fever, transmitted through contaminated food and water, causes sustained high fever, abdominal pain, and in untreated cases, intestinal perforation. It remains endemic in South Asia including Kashmir. Early diagnosis allows prompt antibiotic treatment, reducing complications and duration of illness.
Who should get this test?
- Anyone in Kashmir with fever lasting more than 3–5 days
- People with fever plus abdominal pain, constipation, or rose-coloured spots
- Those who have consumed water or food from uncertain sources
- Travellers returning from endemic regions with persistent fever
