Homocysteine Test at Home in Srinagar
An amino acid that, when elevated, damages blood vessels and raises stroke risk.
What does the Homocysteine Test measure?
Homocysteine is an amino acid produced naturally in the body when it breaks down methionine, a protein found in meat and dairy. Normally it is quickly recycled by vitamins B6, B12, and folate. When these vitamins are insufficient — or when certain genetic variants impair the recycling pathway — homocysteine accumulates in the blood.
Why does it matter?
High homocysteine damages the inner lining of blood vessels, promotes clot formation, and contributes to arterial plaque. It is an independent risk factor for heart attack, stroke, and deep vein thrombosis. It is also linked to cognitive decline and dementia. The good news: elevated homocysteine is often correctable with B-vitamin supplementation once identified.
Who should get this test?
- Vegetarians and vegans with potential B12 or folate deficiency
- People with a family or personal history of stroke or early heart disease
- Anyone experiencing unexplained fatigue, brain fog, or memory concerns
- Patients with known MTHFR gene variants
- Young adults doing a cardiovascular risk baseline
