Uric Acid Test at Home in Srinagar
High uric acid causes gout attacks and kidney stones — and is easily treated once found.
What does the Uric Acid Test measure?
Uric acid is a waste product formed when the body breaks down purines, found in red meat, organ meats, shellfish, and alcohol. Most uric acid dissolves in blood and is excreted by the kidneys in urine. When production exceeds excretion, levels rise in the blood.
Why does it matter?
High uric acid (hyperuricaemia) causes gout — extremely painful joint inflammation, most commonly in the big toe, ankle, or knee. Chronically elevated uric acid also contributes to kidney stones and is associated with cardiovascular disease and metabolic syndrome. Dietary changes and medications manage it effectively once diagnosed.
Who should get this test?
- Anyone with sudden severe joint pain (suspected gout attack)
- Men over 40 with recurrent joint pain or swelling
- People with a high-purine diet (red meat, organ meats, shellfish, beer)
- Patients with kidney stones or on diuretics
