What does the KFT measure?
A Kidney Function Test (KFT or RFT) measures creatinine, blood urea nitrogen (BUN), urea, uric acid, and calculates estimated GFR (eGFR) — how well the kidneys are filtering blood per minute.
Why does it matter?
Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is largely silent in early stages. Creatinine and eGFR catch declining kidney function years before symptoms emerge. Diabetics and hypertensives are at especially high risk and should test annually. Certain medications (NSAIDs, antibiotics, contrast agents) also affect kidney function and should be monitored.
